In Ayurveda, snehan chikitsa is a form of therapy used to prepare the body for Panchakarma (Ayurvedic cleansing program) and during it. However snehan chikitsa (Massage Therapy) can be used on its own as an individual Ayurvedic treatment. It helps with a wide array of health issues as well as being a rejuvenative treatment. One of Snehan’s main benefits is that it pacifies Vata Dosha. In Ayurveda, Vata Dosha controls all functions of the body, if this Dosha is working correctly, so is the body. Thus snehan therapy greatly increases overall health because it directly treats Vata Dosha. When Vata Dosha is balanced, the person experiences clarity of mind, reduction in anxiety, and an overall sense of wellbeing. Benefits include: Snehana (Oil Massage) This is an Ayurvedic treatment where warm medicated oil is massaged into the body. Snehana is a very grounding and nourishing treatment because the strokes of this treatment are sequenced in a way to directly treat Vata Dosha and the Five Vayus. Snehana with Vayu Diagnosis The Vayus are important energetic channels (similar to meridians in Chinese Medicine) which directly cross over organs in the body and correspond to the Chakras. They contain vital information about our current well being as they help with both physical and subtle activities. Mardanam (Deep Tissue Massage) This is a penetrating version of Snehan. Warm oil is massaged into the body and pressure is applied to the muscles in order to release deep seated tension. This massage benefits the skin, increases muscular tone and accelerates healing from fatigue. It is especially useful for athletes who train on a regular basis as it treats both the muscles and the tissues, relieving aches and pains. Utsadan This treatment is especially used to reduce skin toxicity. Warm handmade oil, infused with herbs to clarify the skin is massaged into the skin. This is then followed by a herbal paste massaged into the skin. This treatment greatly enhances skin clarity and tone. It is an excellent treatment for sensitive or problematic skin. Udvartan This is a body scrub treatment. It is performed with a herbal paste using upward strokes. It promotes lymphatic circulation, reduces cellulite and edema. It also reduces fat that has collected around the abdomen, breast and thighs. Excellent treatment for all weight and fluid retention problems. Shiro Dhara This treatment includes an hour long snehan massage. It is then followed by warm oil poured onto several points on the forehead and third eye. Shiro Dhara has many benefits. It improves sleep, memory and concentration. It calms the nervous system and helps relieve fatigue, tension, and anxiety. It can help to regulate moods and reduce stress especially in overactive minds. It also nourishes the hair and scalp. It is valuable as a general treatment to still the mind and quieten the senses. Shalmali Beauty Treatment This includes an hour long snehan massage. A herbal face pack is then applied to the face and rose water to the eyes. This treatment greatly enhances the overall quality of the skin on the body and face. It draws impurities out and leaves the skin glowing. this treatment is excellent for bridal preparation, special occasions, or any time you want to treat yourself to a natural beauty treatment. Mind Body Bliss The ultimate in relaxation. Treatment includes an one hour snehan massage followed by a herbal face pack and rose water to the eyes. The hair and scalp are then massaged with Brahmi oil. Space is provided for the client to relax for all the oils to soak in and nourish the body and senses. Snehan nourishes the body, the Shalmali face pack brightens the skin and Brahmi oil leaves the hair glistening and the mind relaxed.
The Five Vayus govern the function of Prana ( Life Force) within our body and through this intimate massage, the Vayus are invited to return to a place of balance, calm, and equilibrium. This leaves the client feeling nourished, satiated, and refreshed.
For example, our ability to physically digest our food and emotionally digest our experiences is related to Samana Vayu.
While Snehana , the physical massage, will directly work on all the Vayus, Vayu Diagnosis was designed to give the client direct feedback about their unconscious patterns and blockages present in their channels, so that every Snehana becomes an opportunity for awareness and change. For Ayurveda to serve the client, it needs to hand the power back to the client so they can make simple and yet radical changes to their lives, freeing themselves from restricting patterns and behaviors. Vayu Diagnosis was designed to do just this, by first anchoring the client’s awareness to their own body and secondly, by giving the client the information needed so that the client can make their own changes to themselves, preventing the reoccurrence of patterns. The goal of Vayu Diagnosis is to empower the client in taking ownership over their body, health and lives.
This is a head to toe treatment in Bliss.
